Many broadcasters have had their budgets cut. Often, this comes at the expense of journalism. As former British Prime Minister (and journalist) Boris Johnson once noted, many journalists today report from an office, never actually seeing the things they report on.
Well, we do have a lot of confrontational travel influencers who try to get attacked so they have something to report on. Sometimes we see something, sometimes we don’t
If you are interested in international diplomacy and how it relates to the conflict in Ukraine, I recommend Caolan Robertson’s channel. Of course, he is pro-Ukraine, that is obvious. But it isn’t just one of those empty adjectives channels that shows other people’s clips or comments on the day. Robertson goes places, he shows us what he is talking about.
Now, there are other channels that are somewhat interesting in the spheres of history, lifestyle, and travel that we might report on. But, this guy has the attention of the Russians.
We have other places where travel journalism is just about getting to know a place. Rick Steves, who works for PBS, had a travel journal which included a trip to Iran.
Most of YouTube, unfortunately, needs a villain, or an extreme, to get attention.
We see how Tyler Oliveira went from being a compassionate guy who could get drug addicts to talk to almost seeking out confrontation to get views. Perhaps he was pushed there. But even seeking out these “click bait” titles, we learn a bit from the likes of Oliveira. Tyler’s not as in-your-face as Rebel News or Daily Caller, and still manages to stick with a subject long enough to get “both sides” of a story.
Bald and Bankrupt doesn’t really teach us much, but it’s fun to watch people like him go on tours.
One thing we noticed is that a lot of bad experiences in Europe these days happen in the Netherlands. Whether it is Romanians, Chinese, or even Dutch citizens, the Netherlands seems to be one place that makes it difficult for people to have an opinion or even run a business without an opinion. It’s probably not the best place for foreigners and expats right now.
However, we haven’t yet found much in the way of unbiased journalism on events in the Netherlands. Most people who go there either do a bland travel video or have a “dog in the fight.”
