9 or 10
We keep telling people that there are 10 universities in Cluj. But we can only find application procedures for 9. So, there are 9 universities in Cluj, and another possible one.
Gheorghe Dima national academy of music
There is a music academy that sometimes performs in town. A nice music shop is nearby, and some of the graduates give music lessons.
University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF Iuliu Hațieganu)
University of Agricultural and Medical Sciences (USAMV)
What do we know about USAMV? They have a nice museum, that we went to on Museum day. And a long proud history, which was displayed in the town center. I think it’s probably a good university.
Technical University of Cluj Napoca
This one offers classes in English, and has work programs for students. (So, you can work and study at the same time.) The staff seem qualified.
Babeș Bolyia University
The biggest, the oldest, and one that you can’t ignore. The temperature is not as controlled as the mall, and the bathrooms don’t always have toilet paper, but nobody’s perfect. The staff smiles more than some shops at the mall.
University of Art and Design, Cluj Napoca
One famous grad sells paintings for over a million euros each. Other grads are broke and working fast food to survive. But a lot of talented people come from there, so if you put the work in, you might increase your skill set.
University Bogdan Voda
We know nothing about University of Bogdan Voda. Courses seem to be in Romanian, (but there are pages in English and a Eurasmus program exists), the SSL certificate is out of date, and it advertises at the bus stops and on Facebook. Economics, law and sports science.
Protestant Theological Institute of Cluj Napoca
Unitarians and Lutherans train their ministers in the same building. The website works. We have literally not even seen the building(s), so your guess is as good as ours.
Sapientia University, Cluj Napoca campus
Nice buildings. We saw films there during the film festival. Some interesting looking courses, you can even do a PhD in film. But it is tiny, tiny, tiny. I think the courses are all in Hungarian, but you can look around if you want.
Avram Iancu University?
I cant find a webpage for them, but they do appear to have a Facebook page, which links to a dead webpage and mentions admissions for 2022. The admissions were for post graduate programs only. Then there was
In 2015, Monitorul reported that Avram Iancu university received a “vote of disbelief” from the ARACIS board (which overseas Romanian Universities.). At the time, it had 25 students enrolled in the program.
Aracis visited the university again in 2017, but at that time it seemed to be called the Educational Association of Avram Iancu.
There is a large high school called Avram Iancu that appears to get good reviews. Please do not confuse the university with the high school.
Tip, if you want your university to be found, try to give it a unique name.
Online Universities may be of interest to people in Cluj
You can study East European or Central European studies while in Cluj. I mean, you could study anything online, theoretically, but why not study something related to your surroundings? (And if you study technology, might as well go to one of the Universities based in Cluj, right?) Okay, we’ll link to these when that page goes live.
