Traffic madness travelling East on the North road.

Posted on August 17, 2026 by Fatca Pop

The traffic was so slow, that you could walk faster than the cars.  The road that leads from Floresti to the airport and beyond was blocked traffic on one side today, and it wasn’t filled with people flying out of town (the traffic continued beyond the airport.  And we hear reports that the airport itself was no more crowded than normal, with one group saying it was less crowded than they were used to.)

Anyway, what caused the traffic jam?  There was an ambulance travelling the other way, and some say it was an accident.  We didn’t see what was blocking traffic, but we were surprised it wasn’t going the other way.

In Cluj itself, a few roads are closed off because of musical performances in the city center, and in other parts.  Magyarnapok, or Hungarian Days, is back, this time without money from Orban’s government.  Will it be as big as ever?  Are there still cool hats and diablos for sale?  Is there still a point waiting in line for Langos now with all the little langos stands throughout town?  And how good is the music?

That all boils down to personal taste.  Well, not all of it.  I mean, most of it.

There appear to be other musical numbers that are not directly related to Hungarian Days.  It is extremely hot, so some of the activities start as late as 11.30 and are reported to go on until 2 in the morning!  Or maybe later, who knows.  Alternatively, to escape the heat, you could wake up very early.

There are sure to be plenty of opportunities for Selfies, but fortunately most people at the days seem to enjoy the moment while they are living it rather than turning it into an influencer cringefest.  Vibe, what vibe?  It’s 33 degrees outside, just be happy you’re alive!

A funny thing, it’s not always the best opportunity to practice your Romanian.  Sometimes people come from Hungary for the festival, so a few of the people running the stands might be weak in Romanian, and might even speak better English than Romanian.  If you want a langos, however, or some other treat, you often get a lot of locals who speak Romanian.

It is supposed to rain and be cooler tomorrow, or Tuesday.  Rain or heat, which do you prefer?  I will take the rain.  (No, I wasn’t going to Belgium at the airport, but if the rain doesn’t come… I might consider it.)
