Făclia de Cluj reports that a “15 year old minor has been arrested” for riding a scooter. I never thought I’d write those words. “His father is also under investigation.”
The scooter was “too powerful to ride without a license.” It requires “the same kind of license as a moped.” Both mopeds and those kind of scooters require category L1e licenses. Or it’s an L1e category vehicle, that requires a category AM license. Whatever, I remember when scooters were children’s toys that only went about 2 mph. If anyone stopped you asking to see your license, it was your uncle pretending to be a policeman, trying to slow you down because your parents were only walking at 1 mph.
So, I guess you can buy e-scooters in the shop that are more powerful than the Bolts? I hope the Bolt scooters don’t require licenses because, well, I don’t know anyone who got a moped license to ride one. Well, I’ve seen some of those bigger scooters around, and I guess they could be more powerful than Bolt scooters.
Anyway, the incident happened on 11 September, but the article appears in the 14 September edition of Făclia.
A previous edition of Făclia reported that more deaths are being attributed to e-scooters. So far, two this year in Cluj. There have also been many serious accidents that resulted in debilitating injuries. So, maybe it makes sense to require licenses for these things.
