You may have heard a solar eclipse is coming to Europe, the first Eclipse of this millenium! The best places to see it include parts of Spain, Northern Portugal, Iceland, and well, other parts of Western Europe.
But did you know that on 12th of August that same eclipse will be a partial eclipse right here in Cluj Napoca?
What time is that eclipse? I’ve heard conflicting information. Beneluxians have told me that it was toward of the middle of the day. But websites are telling me it is closer to sunset.
In many parts of Europe, special eyewear designed to make it safe to see the eclipse has already sold out!
The eclipse allegedly starts at 8.22 pm, with the maximum effect at 8.37. then when the sun is set, it becomes hard to see anymore.
Is it worth going to Western Europe to see it properly? Well, in Cluj it will be about 10 percent covered. It is still interesting, but in Iceland it will probably be amazing. Will you be able to find protective glasses in Iceland? Better buy some before you go (or at least try to get them on the way.)
