Until tomorrow, you can sign up for Germa classes with the German club at UBB, or the Deutschen Kulturzentrum Klausenburg (aka Last Clean Newt). Yes, the deadline is 2 October to sign up for this semester’s German classes.
German is more expensive than other languages. Some languages are free for students, or charge 300 lei. German classes are five times that price. (Well, anything times zero is still zero. Five times the higher price.) 1400 lei for “pupils, students and retirees.” Not only do they have a discount for retirees, they also list the classes in both English and Romanian. So, I guess everyone is welcome.
The good news is that there is a senior discount. How is this good news, if you’re not a senior? If you’re over 25, the security guard is less likely to think that you shouldn’t be there. The teacher and other students are less likely to make comments about old people being unable to learn languages. And you’re less likely to be mistaken for the instructor.
The benefits of studying in countries like Holland, Britain, the United States, and I suppose Germany, is that mature students are not an alien species. They aren’t some kind of vampires, or werewolves, that only rural people believe in… okay, maybe Germany doesn’t have as many mature students as Britain does.
The bad news is that the sign up form is inaccessible if you don’t have a Facebook account. Why wouldn’t you have a Facebook account? Have you been banned? has Facebook been banned from your country? Are you boycotting Facebook for political purposes? Are you a trouble maker on the run from the law?
Well, I just think Facebook is stupid. I deleted my account because people who are intelligent in real life are stupid on Facebook. Yes, not only is Facebook stupid, it is also, as Bernd das Brot says, “Mist!” I have an account that I just use to follow some institutions in Cluj. I wish I could find that information without it.
So anyway, if you don’t have Facebook, I copied the link here for you. No more will you go to the Facebook page, and try to scroll down past the sold-out notice of Faust, trying to access the sign up form, only to be told to log in to Facebook.

Why would anyone want to Learn German? To understaud great works of art and literature, of course, like Faust, Mozart, and Berndt das Brot. (Actually, at my school, all the boys who wanted to be rich studied German so they would have better employment opportunities. And, a lot of the boys who ended up better paid as men were those who studied German. But as a famous German once said, “correlation does not imply causation.”)
